Day 10
Today we awoke here in the small town of Mojave having had a rough nights sleep because the hotel is right next to a goods railroad siding, all night huge one mile long goods trains were hooking up and creating so much noise it made it very hard to get into a deep sleep, so this morning we were all a bit tired as we saddled up and headed out. First of all we tried to get into a air force graveyard which was right behind us but that was not going to happen, so we rode around a bit to try and get a good photo opportunity. Once we got a few distant photos we hit the road, today we were going to have to ride about 240 miles to get to Vegas and the route was basically freeways all the way so not a lot to see, we did see a sign for a Ghost town so we took the off ramp and headed towards Calico. This was a cool place just of the freeway and we got a group rate, which only cost us $3 each. We parked up and walked around this old mining town, it was pretty cool to see how things were back then and the weather was just perfect. Rory as usual was messing around and created some great and funny photo opportunities. We didn’t stop too long here and after about 90 minutes, we all geared up and hit the road again. We pushed on until we all needed gas and pulled over, I noticed an old rusty oil tank with a good backdrop so we took the opportunity to line the bikes up one by one to take the pictures for the website a few of the guys had a snack and we hit the road again. It wasn’t long that those who didn’t snack got hungry and we turned off at a small town called Baker and pulled into a Denny’s for a late lunch. This was going to be our last stop before we got to Vegas. After a full lunch we headed for Vegas and the last 90 miles for today. The ride there was quite nice considering it was all freeways. We finally hit Vegas suburbs at about 4:30pm and our SatNav caused us to take a wrong turn and put us on a gridlocked freeway, we had to ride this for a couple of miles before we could get off, by now the temps were in the 80’s and the bikes were getting seriously hot. A few bikes got the engine light indicating that it was getting too hot but then the road cleared and we took the exit and found the Hotels Parking garage. We are staying in Caesars Palace where some of our wives have been staying at so we all met up in the lobby. After we checked in we all met at a bar and then decided to go for something to eat, the girls suggested a snack across the road but after we walked ahead we didn’t fancy it so moved on to somewhere else, the night ended with a few of us gambling in The Imperial Palace on a roulette table and of course lost all our money, that is except Stuart who picked up on my number 11 that I had been betting until my money ran out and he scooped up $140 on a win on 11. A few drinks later we all hit the sack. A good day and we are pleased we made it to Vegas, but we are a few days behind schedule now thanks to Yosemite and the 2 bikes so we have to decide the best route forward which we will do tomorrow.
