2011 USA Harley Road Trip

Day 1

Ok today is a whole lot different to yesterday, why?, Because its Day 1 of the Harley Road Trip, 9 guys have been waiting 2 and a half years for this to start and all of a sudden it’s here and we are now beginning this trip that we all thought would never come around, Needless to say that everyone’s spirits were extremely high, despite it being nearly 85 degrees at 8:30 am. It was going to take a few hours to get all the bikes sorted and we thought…

Day 2

Day 2 and we all felt a lot better than yesterday, mainly because we had broken the start and all the anticipation and weird thoughts we all had disappeared and now we were on a Road Trip of a lifetime. We all got a reasonable nights sleep and were all at breakfast at the agreed time and were all settling into the local time zone. It was reported that today was going to be a record high for the time of the year at a 98 degrees F, but because…

Day 3

Today was a going to be a slower day because we had to get through the suburbs of Los Angeles through Long Beach, the main concern was loosing someone, the traffic lights occur so often and that combined with the amount of traffic was always going to cause an issue. And this proved to be the case West of Long Beach, the Road US1 also know as the Pacific Coast Highway suddenly changed name to something else, just as my Sat Nav decided to shut down and refuse to restart,…

Day 4

Anyway today started well until the guys could not find the keys to the SUV I had ridden off with them in my pocket, so after a little messing about I was told and had to turn back to see them sitting waiting for me, ooops. Today the road out confused us as we came in on the PCH yesterday and went out on the US101 which is a 3 lane freeway, we came off to see if we had made a mistake but apparently the sat nav was right,…

Day 5

Got up this morning and checked on the website and noticed a post in the guestbook that someone had left, saying they had Pudsey our little bear and they wanted $500 for its safe return, thinking it was a joke we checked Robs bike and sure enough it had gone, we have not heard again from Brant & Jay but we hope that Pudsey is OK. Right enough of the silly stuff today we were going to head towards San Francisco or close to it, but we probably would not…

Day 6

Well after a late and heavy night we were all feeling a bit tired but we still had to keep on riding, it had rained through the night so the bikes needed a good wipe down, we were going to Carmel By the Sea this morning and then to a 17 mile scenic route at Pebble Beach where the golf course is, We got to Carmel really quickly as it was only a couple of miles away, but we still managed to lose the SUV, we all walked along the…

Day 7

Today was going to be a full day, we set off at about 9:00 am and got to San Francisco in good time, on the way in we stopped and mounted the video camera on the rear of the SUV and took it in turns to pose at the camera we kept this on all the way to the Golden Gate Bridge and even managed to all keep together despite the traffic. The weather was fine and the Bridge was visible and we got some reasonable photos. The view from…

Day 8

Well after last night, we were all feeling very dodgy and tired but we had a long day today so we had to force ourselves to get going, to be honest I don’t think anyone really noticed or remembered the sleeping restrictions we had because we all just passed out. Jeff made us all breakfast which was great and got us ready for a long ride to Bakersfield. Now this morning we were supposed to ride through Yosemite to Lone Pine on the other side but last night we found…

Day 9

Well the days troubles were nowhere near over, Rob’s bike still had a puncture and Eagle Riders emergency numbers were a waste of time none of them were answered and at 9 o’clock today Rob actually spoke to a Harley dealer in LA, to be fair the guy was really helpful, he tried to call around to see if there was a local guy available but could not get anyone, it was Easter Sunday and nobody was willing to answer their phones and help. What we did discover was that…

Day 10

Today we awoke here in the small town of Mojave having had a rough nights sleep because the hotel is right next to a goods railroad siding, all night huge one mile long goods trains were hooking up and creating so much noise it made it very hard to get into a deep sleep, so this morning we were all a bit tired as we saddled up and headed out. First of all we tried to get into a air force graveyard which was right behind us but that was…
