Day 2 Alvito
So amazingly we didn’t need the alarm call for 9:30 this morning as we both woke up at about 8:30 and headed downstairs to get our breakfast which was in the building next door. It was basic but the coffee machine was super fast I think it took 4 seconds to make a cappuccino from the second the button was pushed, very impressive. After breakfast we had a walk around the town and took a look at the castle, I even got my drone up for some aerial shots. The weather this morning was seriously hot and walking around in our jeans was making us very hot indeed. After we did our touristic stuff we checked out and got on our bikes to head for our next stop for the day which was going to be Monseraz. We started the bikes and headed off and 20 feet up the road we were halted by police and told the carnival was in town and we would have to wait, it was now really hot and with leathers on it was getting unbearable, fortunately the police allowed us to ride the wrong way up a one way street to get out of town. Todays riding would take us about 3:30 hours and about 2 hours to Monseraz.
We rocked up at about 2 ish and parked the bikes and had a late lunch, we had smashed eggs chips and ham, well the eggs were OK but the ham was solid hard chunks. So feeling short changed we left and had a walk around this amazing walled town. Once we had seen all we needed to we head off towards Alvito which is where we will be stopping tonight. We arrived there at about 4:30 checked in and off loaded the bikes and got showered for a night out, we were not sure if we were going to eat in the hotels restaurant until we had a good look around town, well that took all of 1 minute, there didn’t seem to have anything open, so we got google to show us any bars and one was open on the entrance to the town so we walked up there and sat outside. This place was like a typical Portuguese cafe well lit horrible decor and no atmosphere but it was open, Rob went in to get us 2 large beers, when mine was put down in front of me it looked like cigarette ash was floating on my beer, I am sure it wasnt but I scraped it away and we enjoyed the beers. The second beer came and mine still seem to have bits floating in the head but was not bothered, we decided we would eat in the hotels restaurant so I called and made a reservation for 7:30pm, we got back a little after this and sat down in the restaurant its really nice but we were the only people in there, we ordered some wine which was really nice and only 15 Euros the bottle and our food. I had a steak and chips but it turned up with crisps so I got some french fries instead, we both had prawns for starters which were lush and a second bottle of wine, we had a great night and hit the sack very tired, our room by the way is great and the hotel is really lovely.
