Day 3
This morning we were woken up by the ships Bow Thrusters bringing us in to dock at about 7:30am, it was nice to look out the window and see land, we were at Labadee a private island owned by Royal Caribbean in Haiti and although we were on the wrong side of the ship, it was nice to see a fertilla of wave runners with different countries flags blasting by our window. We were able to disembark at 8 this morning but we had decided not to rush and have breakfast first, and get off the ship at about 10:30.
After breakfast we headed back to our rooms and packed our beach ware and walked off the the ship into a heatwave, the heat just hit us as we walked off the gangplank and the cooling effect of the ships AC. A short walk later we were asked to pose for a photo but we declined and lined up for our own saving $21 in the process, the only problem is I was missing form the shot but hey I am used to that. This island is privately owned and only guest from the ships were allowed to use it so the only people on the island were cruise ship guests and crew which was really nice as we could use our ships passes to gets drinks, the food was still free and there was at least 4 food stations on the island. The first thing we all did was sign up for the 11:00am Zip wire, this was a 5 lane zip wire from the top of the islands tree tops to the beach below some half a mile run with a sudden jolt at the end. This was great we had all done a zip wire before but not over open sea. There was a quick orientation and sample run but the most fun was when we got to the top and strapped in for the decent, having 5 at once meant that we could all go together but this was actually staggered but once released it was great blasting over the beach and bathers at 45 mph towards the distant beach.
Once we had had our adrenaline rush we decided to hot the beach and relax for the remainder of the day with lunch and a few drinks. The weather was a blistering 85 at least and the rest of the day was great, we stared to walk back to the ship at about 2:45 and showered ready to get back up on deck for the 4:30 departure. The only problem was that whilst getting ready we noticed the ship was moving at about 15:45 so obviously everyone got onboard early and the Captain decided to leave early which was a shame because we wanted to be up on deck for the departure. Anyway we still met at the arrange time of 4pm at Schooners Inn for the trivia quiz, now having lost last night with only 1 point in it we were determined to improve our chances, but was this going to be US trivia, well it turned out to be a global version of the quiz which still didn’t help us because we failed miserably and came nowhere close to the expected victory we were hoping for, so ashamed we retreated outside into the warm air to watch Turtle island brush by over a few cocktails. We had also agreed to meet back in the same bar for a 50’s & 60’s music quiz at 7pm so we quickly headed back to our rooms to change into our evening attire and met back at the bar promptly at 7pm and got settled in for what must be a better chance than the earlier disaster. But failure was again going to be our destiny as we hit 19 out of a possible 40 so no chance for gold. We had a great time though the Americans just love social banter and the whole quiz came second against the exchange of funny comments and careless concerns over competence to the job in hand, we had a great time and walked away grateful for the experience. We strolled into our dining area onetime and was created by Sheldon and the quiet poor magician (who’s name we still don’t know) but what a welcome, they knew our drinks and names and made us feel important despite the fact that Lorna & Sandy were three sheets to the wind. Our meal was great and the banter of Lorna’s cooking ability was thrown around the table which was hilarious because she bites every time. So both Ken and myself thought that the girls were boarding poleaxed so we decided to leave them to their own devices, after all where could they go ??. So at about 11:00 Ken and me retired, I jumped on my laptop and updated the blog or at least made the entry, without Internet it was impossible to upload anything but it was important to keep up to date and stay on top of things, despite the obvious distractions LOL.
