Dec 11th. Day 2. New Orleans LA.
To skip the band move to 5:40 on the video.
243 Miles travelled today.
Got up this morning at 8am which is really 9am for us but never mind wanted to get to New Orleans as soon as we could but first we had to find some warm clothing yesterday was a joke especially for me as I don’t have a sweater or anything long sleeved, so we punched in “Ross Dress For Less” into the GPS and was on our way at about 9am, OMG what a pile of crap that store turned out to be, so we bailed and set our coords to New Orleans and would stop at anything on the way that suited, as luck would have it, in no time a Walmart appeared and a quick lane change and abuse form other drivers we were screeching into the parking lot. Well it was better than RDFL but not great for Lorna as she only found some boots and leggings I on the other hand got a jacket and fleece. So now all we needed was some fuel for us and the SUV.
We fuelled up at Walmart and just before the i10 we pulled up into a Waffle House and had a light breakfast. After a nice breakfast we were back on the i10 heading towards New Orleans, we would cross Alabama, Mississippi and finally enter Louisiana.
We arrived at our hotel at around 1:45 and unpacked a few items and really just went straight back out again for a look around town and a few drinks, OMG Bourbon Street is a mess, it appears that the town is upgrading the drains but it means closing off the road and its full of machinery not the sight we were expecting, also the whole feel of the place has taken a drastic drop there are more beggars and generally the whole place has a uncertain and insecure feel about it. Lorna was not happy walking through the streets, we did come across a lovely looking bar attached to the Bourbon Orleans Hotel but it wasn’t open yet but we will defiantly come back later, but for now we settled for a safe bet of the “Hard Rock Cafe” for a couple of drinks and a appetiser to keep us going. After this we headed back to the hotel to shower and got ready for tonight, we was not sure what to expect out there as earlier it all seemed a a bit desperate but we aimed for the “Bourbon O” Bar in the Bourbon Orleans Hotel and was actually please as we entered we were told by security that there was a one drink minimum so we propped up the bar and got ourselves truly installed, the band came on at 8pm and were really good the whole vibe in this bar was great and we even had one of the famous cocktails called “Ramos Gin Fizz” It was mainly Gin based but had to be mixed for 6 minutes which is why they have a machine to do this. Very nice. After this we headed back down Bourbon street back to the hotel, we were pleased to see the road works had stopped but it was still a noisy street with so many desperate people trying to get you dollars, but thankfully our hotel is off the main strip and was nice and quiet well until 5:30am when the construction re started Hey Ho.
