Day 56

Nothing to report for yesterday as we headed out of Louisiana towards Mississippi and stopped just outside Jackson in a town called Clifton. I was not feeling very well and was coming down fast with a bad cold so yesterday I wanted to try and shift it and stayed in. So after a night in, with a pizza and a movie channel we headed north to Memphis. We didn’t stop anywhere in Mississippi as it was too cold and there was not a great deal to see en-route. But we have a bit to see in Memphis and of course the first place had to be Graceland. Memphis was only 3 hours from Clifton so we got there at a reasonable time and paid for the full tour, which gave us access to the house, his car collection and his aeroplanes. The tour was good as pictures were allowed but with no flash and NO VIDEO. But today’s digital cameras have the video mode so it was crazy to think it was not going to happen. It was really good and well worth the money compared to the Buddy Holly tour, which didn’t allow photos. After Graceland we went into town and found a suitable hotel. The Holiday Inn on Union Ave seemed a good idea as it was close to the next place we wish to visit tomorrow, Sun Studios and there was the Peabody Hotel across the road where they have a parade each day of 5 ducks that come down the elevator at 11:00am and walk across their own red carpet to the fountain in the centre of the lobby. They stay there all day until 5:00pm where they then walk back to the elevator to their penthouse suite. How bloody stupid but it was full of tourists watching so we had to do the same. Afterwards we headed down to Beale Street, which is a little like Bourbon Street but cleaner, we went into BB Kings Bar apparently the original one that started the chain across America. We only stayed for one and then moved on to another bar and then called it a night, as I was still feeling like shite. But a great day.
