Dec 22nd. Day 13 Page AZ.
Hi folks, Today we got up feeling very rested after another good nights sleep, we wanted to go on the scenic train this morning but it was $200 and it would take 5 hours and we thought that would cause us issues getting toward our goal of being close to Sedona in time, plus we woke up about 20 minutes before it was due to leave so we kinda dismissed it, shame because it looks amazing the other thing was that we figured it would be absolutely full of kids as its a few days before Christmas so maybe next time. Instead we drove to Ross and Walmart to get each other some Christmas presents just a few things to open on the day, after this we fuelled the car and hit the road heading towards Arizona and a town called Page.
Today’s journey would take about 4:30 hours with a lunch stop.
The scenery changed almost immediately we entered into Arizona, it got warmer as we were now lower at about 4,000ft. The weather was great making the red stone look so cool, we stopped for a few photos and then after around 5 hours we rolled up into Page, we had pre selected a hotel last night and we wanted to check it out, as it turned out it was fine and we checked in not bad either at $109, we asked for a quiet room and was put on the top floor right at the end facing east which we were told would be very quiet. The hotel has a bar and restaurant which we went down too and sat at the bar. We met the bar tender a nice guy called Jordan and got a few drinks, in no time at all we were chatting with him about Kraken and all sorts of things including his ambition to open a bar in Manhattan, we ate the bar and had a real good conversation with this guy, I mean this is exactly what travelling between towns each day on a road trip is all about. We eventually ended up sampling one of his Margaritas he had invented and patented and it was a spicy hot concoction that was shared between us and some young girls at the end of the bar. One thing that did happen was that Jordan was telling us where to go around the area and mentioned Antelope Canyon although he thought it would be fully booked, what we didn’t realise is that Antelope Canyon is a place I had seen before and always wanted to go too, so we frantically checked online on our phones and sure enough it was fully booked but we will go tomorrow just in case someone cancels and keep our fingers crossed. Google “Antelope Canyon” and your see what we mean.
We finally exchanged Facebook details and will see if this young guy ends up in NY as per his ambitions we certainly hope so, thanks Jordan for your great hospitality tonight.
