Day 3 Caldas da Filgueira

Early start for us today 8.45am alarm, 9am breakfast, 10am check out and on the road for Day 3. Today we are taking in 3 stop off locations the first is 30 minutes away and the small town/village of Monsanto which is a place built around the huge boulders that are all around this region, we got there and found a rather precarious parking spot and walked all around this amazing place. There was shops AirBnb’s, cafes and restaurants all sunken in huge bolders or built on top of them. The town was pristine clean and the roads if you can call them that, were new with led lights embedded in them we imagine this place looks amazing at night. We spent about an hour walking around taking photos and then headed back to the car. The drive out had Lorna on the edge of her seat  stone walls millimetres away from the mirrors but we made it out and headed towards Sortelha. The temps were still in the 30’s and 90 minutes later we pulled at the entrance to the oldest town in Portugal Sortelha. We had a good look around taking more photos and really enjoyed this amazing little town.

Our next stop was a petrol station, Lorna was panicking as we were now driving over the top of Serra da estrela, so we eventually found one, filled up and headed to Torre at the very top of the Serra da estrela. We arrived at around 2.30pm had a look around they even had the ski lift working. We stopped for a snack and drink took a few photos and headed down to our hotel for the night. We had seen that the hotels check in time was bloody 5pm so arriving at 4pm we didn’t know if we could check in, but we did. The room is lovely and after a quick bag drop we were poolside by around 4.30pm.

We got settled by the pool and then got a drink and burger at the pool bar, it was quite late but we didn’t care because the food later will probably be terrible. But we were not expecting a ice cold burger. The poor guy was mortified so Lorna got another toasted cheese and ham sandwich. Its the only safe bet in the Alentejo lol. At around 7pm we left the pool and went up to the room to get ready fir tonights gamble sorry meal. We did have a look to see if there were any restaurants nearby but there weren’t any. So at 8.15 we came down for a drink, but the bar was closed, so we wandered down to the pool bar which was also closed but the guy from earlier was there and served us a drink each. We took them into the lobby as the mosquitos were bitting. We went into the kiddies cresh sorry I mean restaurant omg the fucking noise from all the kids in there. We didn’t feel adventurous so Lorna had pasta and I had a omelette which was fine. We finished up and got the hell out of hell. Had a nightcap in the lobby and went to bed again at around 11pm.

Side note the room close to us has 6 kids in it let’s see if we get any sleep.
