Day 40

We checked out this morning and got a few more sites in around LA before heading off to San Diego. The first stop was Gladys Ave the home of the self proclaimed thinnest house in the world, But unknown to us there was 2 Gladys Avenues in Los Angeles and the first place we went to got us all a bit worried as there were really dodgy looking people slumming it, and we decided it must be wrong that’s when we found out there was a second location with the same name. We got there and took some photos, after that we headed towards San Diego on the coastal route I-101. We stopped for brunch in San Clemente in a dodgy burger bar called Pete’s Burgers, not the best place we have eaten in but we blamed Ken all the way down the coast as it was his decision. we stopped off briefly at Coronado, which is an island off the coast of San Diego and is considered a high class part of the city, very nice. After that we had to head inland and try and get as far over towards Phoenix as we could and stopped in Jacob Springs, which is a natural spring, and spa and we read about it and decided we should stay there. BUT when we got there it was a major shit pit, but we stopped for a beer anyway and then the fun started the bar was full of drunken locals and then there was a huge crash from the reception area and then the bartender came in screaming and holding his bloody face. Apparently someone, we think the receptionist punched him hard in the face and split his nose open. So it was then that we decided to move on just as the cops were arriving. So another hour later we stopped in El Centro and a Best Western. A fine meal and a few drinks later we were tucked up in bed, knackered.
