Day 53
Despite the hotel/casino being really nice and not a bad price, we couldn’t really stop another day and use it as a base as New Orleans was 3.5 hours drive away and that would mean 7 hours driving to get back. So we checked out and headed east towards the unknown. Lorna was not keen and she made that apparent on route. But I really think that if we are that close we should take a look, besides it’s a lovely city and I am sure that not all of it could be damaged. It wasn’t looking good when we were about 110 miles away from New Orleans when we drove past a flooded area. The water had got up to the
treetops and we did wonder what might be in store for us. But like most places we have visited on this trip it was the complete opposite of what we expected. Bourbon Street was unaffected as it was above the water line. This we found out from David a really nice guy in the bar below the Bourbon Hotel in the gay section of this famous street. We tried to get a room in this hotel but it was fully booked, so we got David to phone around and try various other options. We finally found a room in the Ramada Hotel on Bourbon and were not disappointed. The room we chose was overlooking their own courtyard and pool and was a lot quieter than the main street rooms. Tonight we are going to go back and see David and take in the feel of the place.
