Dec 4th. Day 9 Bonaire
So after last nights early retirement, we all decided today that we were going to do what we wanted until 11am where we would decide what to do in Bonaire. Lorna and myself woke up at around 9am and a quick look out the window showed that we were indeed in Bonaire and the weather was looking great, in fact for first time on this trip we were on the sunny side and the heat was intense. There was no sign of the others so we assumed they were at breakfast so we got dressed and went up to the Ocean View restaurant for a mild breakfast.
After this we headed back down to our cabin to see if there were any public beaches to go too online, so after trawling through the slow internet we determined that beaches were probably not going to be on the cards today it looked like most of them had no cover and no facilities so we decided to see if there was a taxi driver that would take us all around the island and show us about. We got off the ship to find an array of taxis all punting tours so we jumped into Hilario’s Taxi and chose the Southern tour which would take us around 90 minutes. Its was really good and our driver/guide was a local guy and knew his stuff. The tour took in the salts flats the lighthouse and slave huts on the beaches, it also finished in what turned out to be a public beach with all amenities and not too far from the ship. Still we now know for the next time, either way by the time we got to the beach at the end of the tour the skies were getting very dark and on the last mile the skies opened and it poured down. So much so, that we asked if we could stay in the taxi until it passed. 5 minutes later it was over as quick as it had come and we walked back onto the ship, todays leaving time was only 2:30pm as we now have 2 and a Half days to get back to Fort Lauderdale. So when we leave later today we will be at sea until we get off on the 7th. Tonight we are eating in Murano’s but first there was a show on in the theatre that everyone wanted to go too except me so they went to that whilst I stopped in the Martini bar for a few drinks before our meal later this evening. We arranged to meet in the Ensemble bar just before we ate and we had a catch up and a few drinks then went into the restaurant we were all really looking forward to this tonight unlike yesterday when we were all tired and not hungry, the meal was great and we all really enjoyed it, so much so that we changed our last night to come back there again and cancel the Tuscan Grille so now we will be having our last onboard meal in Murano’s. We stopped off at the Christmas tree to get some pictures and then headed back to bed ready for tomorrows full day at sea.
