Jan 1st. Day 23 Las Vegas
Good morning and Happy New Year once again, goodbye 2018 and hello to what we hope to be a fantastic year for all.
So we woke up late today and was not entirely sure what to do but we were hungry and really wanted some breakfast so we decided that we would take the monorail over to the top end of the strip near to where the Stratosphere is and walk over there to try and find something to get a breakfast. It was really cold today probably close to 0c but we were all wrapped up and jumped onto the Monorail. We got off at SLS which is the last stop, and a hotel sharing the same name. We crossed the road towards the Stratosphere and found a IHOP, which was so full and a 1 hour wait so we bailed and looked inside the hotel it was again really busy with queues everywhere so we walked out and could see a Denny’s sign in the distance so we walked up to see that it was shut down, so properly pissed off and hungry we thought Sod it and got back on the Monorail and came back to our hotel, so we had been out for nearly 3 hours walked 10000+ steps and still nothing, so as it was now lunch time we had a light lunch instead in the Wolfgang Puck restaurant, we both had a salad and I had water, Lorna had 2 wines and a desert and it was $85. This is the only problem with Vegas hotels, they don’t have any Tea/Coffee making in the room and all the cheap diners are always maxed out. Anyway we went back to our room to relax for a bit and watched some tv before going out tonight. Then at about 6pm new people turned up in the room next door and were having a bloody party, so not wanting to risk hearing young revellers re start the party in the early hours we asked to move rooms. Lorna called reception and was told our key cards would now fit the new room, so Lorna went up to check, she was gone ages and eventually called me on the phone to say that the room she was given had a interconnecting door and a crazy massive Mexican family next door, then the next room was also a connected room and then eventually the third was OK, so we are now on the 28th Floor overlooking the strip and airport.
After we settled into the new room we headed down to the UBER collection place in the hotel (all hotels have this) and went down to Fremont Street to catch the hourly light show.
Because of the room change it was now going to be the 8pm show and we would just make it, we pulled up and got a drink and waited for it to start. Lorna had been here before but has never seen it at night. We watched the show which was OK and then we went to a Irish bar to get some food. We both had chicken tenders and they were OK but way too big we could have shared one easily, then we walked around the corner so we could call another UBER to take us back to what we hoped would be our quiet hotel room.
