Day 7 Valencia Spain
7:30am the alarm woke us up as we were having a light breakfast being delivered to our room at 7:45 and we had to be at the concierge desk at 8:15 ready to go on our E-Bike tour of Valencia. The ship arrived this morning early while we slept for a change and we were up and ready for a full day. Ken and Sandy had to up as early also to go on there excursion to see the town and also some caves. We were escorted to the general meeting place where we met the guide and he told us there would be 10 of us today 6 Italians 2 Brits (us) and 2 French. Well we were not entirely surprised that we were waiting for the French couple who arrived with no send of urgency despite being 10 minutes late. Anyway we all disembarked the ship to where all the bikes were waiting for us. We all got kitted up last night as our helmets and high vis jackets were in our room so all we had to do was size up the seat and away we were. The weather this morning was actually quite mild which was nice as a very hot started would have us all in a right state as the trip is 4.5 hours long. The guide set off with us all following but for some reason the pace was very slow, now we were not expected hacking through town but most of the time I was freewheeling but anyway it gave us a good opportunity to catch some videos and photos, we stopped off by the bridge used when the F1 race is held here and saw sections of the closed off circuit. We also visited various parts of the city, with the occasional stop for 20 minutes to take photos. Bot myself and Lorna were very surprised just how lovely Valencia is, very old clean and full of modern artistic buildings as well as ancient cultural landmarks. We thoroughly enjoyed the places we cycled through and the whole City is geared up for cyclists with bike lanes just about everywhere. We ended up on a really nice long beach where we stopped for 30 minutes, now the weather had picked up in the last 2 hours and we were getting very hot and burnt so we stopped for a snack and a drink. The final ride back was to the ship which we could see in the distance and that was bloody hot and we were very pleased to be back onboard sipping on a cold drink for the bar. It was super hot up on deck so i came back to the room whilst the others stayed in the shade. Now ken and Sandy told us there day was also really nice and the agreed that the city was beautiful, they also said how vast the caves were and how long they we in them. It looks like we all had an amazing time on the excursions. Well 3pm came and went and the ship started to leave the port and then all of a sudden it started heading back to port and tying up, we waited and waited and eventually we got an announcement that there is a issue and we will remain port side until a further update can be issued, so its now 4:30pm and still no news. The ship started to move away from the Dock the girls were still up on deck and they said there was a huge amount of black smoke coming from the chimney stacks they came back to the room to watch the ship depart but soon after the ship started to move back into the dock, at this point we didn’t know anything, we got ready to go out and there was an announcement there was a issue and we would not be leaving Valencia until it was fixed. Eventually we were told over the tannoy that due to this unexpected issue the delay would be long enough so we were going to miss the next port of call which is our exit port of Marseille and go straight to Genoa Italy. This caused a huge issue for all of the passengers wanting to get off in Marseille including us. We started to look at alternative routes back but not knowing what time we would dock in Genoa it was hard to plan, so we carried on as usual and went down to dinner. It was made clear to us that we were going to be onboard for at least one more night so we tried to make the best of it despite the uncertainty of our eventual route back to Faro. We heard rumours that we might be leaving at 11pm but that came and went and we were still in Valencia so we went to bed not knowing where we would be in the morning.
